  1. If you're looking for a way to spend your evenings as the nights start drawing in (it's getting dark as I type this and it's only 8pm), then how about doing some knitting or crochet to help working horses and donkeys?

The Brooke need you to knit and/or crochet for them!

The Brooke is looking for people to knit and crochet!  They've created exclusive knitting and crochet patterns so that you can make a donkey!

You can donate your donkey back to The Brooke to help them raise money for the horses, donkeys and mules who are working so very hard to help their owners and communities at the moment.

They have other ways you can help as well, such as having a clear out and selling your stuff for The Brooke, holding a virtual quiz, make some arts and crafts to sell, and share the delights of your garden - all ways to raise money for horses, donkeys and mules.

Click your needles and head off to The Brooke to find out more

  2. You may well have been watching the terrible scenes from Beirut after the explosions there and for many animal lovers, our first reaction will be – were any animals killed or injured?

The International Fund for Animal Welfare partner with Animals Lebanon.  Their offices were 2.5 miles from the blast – and though there office was in tatters, the team was safe and they have been giving the cats there veterinary treatment.

They’ve set up a dispatch system for owners to report lost pets.

They’ve gone out to help dogs and cats who were buried in debris or roaming the streets searching for their families.  Many pets have been injured and traumatised by this terrible event but many lost pets have been reunited with their families already Veterinary care is being given.

Of course, the human aid agencies are racing to help people.  IFAW is racing to help animals and I want to raise awareness of how us animal lovers can help.   Essentially it’s by donating, but you can also spread the word.

IFAW can provide essential supplies to Animals Lebanon as they rescue family pets from the rubble and give emergency veterinary care.

    Here’s what’s needed most:

    But remember, every bit counts.

IFAW have partnered with Animals Lebanon for years and they have been working closely with them during the coronavirus crisis.

Please help IFAW help the animals in Lebanon.  They need us.

You can also donate via Animals Lebanon’s website.

  3. Calling all bear lovers!  It’s #MoonBearDay on 8th August and a great chance to be kind and to help moon bears!

The theme of #MoonBearDay 2020 is The Only Cure is Kindness.

Animals Asia is devoted to ending bear bile farming and improving the welfare of animals across Asia. It promotes compassion and respect for all animals and works tirelessly to bring about long-term change.  It operates bear rescue sanctuaries in China and Vietnam.

The charity’s founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE, Dr.med.vet. h.c., Hon LLD is the world’s leading authority on the bear bile industry and has been campaigning against it since 1993.

Bringing an END to cruel bear bile farming

Animals Asia has an exclusive agreement with the Vietnamese government to end bear bile farming in Vietnam forever and bring the remaining 438 captive bears to sanctuary.

To make a real, lasting positive change to these bears, we all need to get on board and help them in whatever way we all can.

Ways to make a difference to moon bears:

    1. Add an Animals Asia filter to your Facebook profile photo – show your friends and family that you support moon bears and care about them.

    2. Download your #MoonBearDay poster and put a  #BearInTheWindow for Moon Bear Day.  Share the poster on social media, and don’t forget to tag @AnimalsAsia.

    3. Buy your #TheOnlyCureIsKindness T-shirt, share a picture of yourself wearing it and tell everyone why you support Animals Asia. Remember to tag @AnimalsAsia and use the hashtag #TheOnlyCureIsKindness
    4. Help raise funds for the bears!

There are posters you can download for #MoonBearDay

Ways to help raise funds to rescue & care for the bears

    1. Add a DONATE button to your Facebook posts - ask your followers to donate to Animals Asia. You could also Createafundraiser for the bears.

    2. Donate to Animals Asia’s campaign to end bear bile farming in Vietnam for good, Why not send the bears a little gift such as a jar of strawberry jam, or fruity ice pops?  Maybe you think they’d prefer a fruit and veg hamper, a pool party or a bear swing!  There are plenty of gifts you can send via Animals Asia’s online shop, and they start at £5 (that’s the jar of strawberry jam).

    3. You could also sponsor a bear for £23.00 a month –and help give a bear a forever home because some of the rescued bears will never be able to go back to the wild.

    4. You could also join Oliver’s Army – Oliver was rescued after three decades in a cage and he survived 30 years on a bear bile farm in a full metal jacket.   Give a monthly donation to help care for the bears long term.

Take a look at Animals Asia Getting Involved page and choose something to do!

Just imagine what a difference your help could make

From a life of living in a cage, your help will enable the bears to run, climb and play in their new home and even take a dip in a pool!   We can all help ensure that the bears have the best care with all their veterinary needs attended to and everything they need to help them get over their previous traumatic life.  And of course, all this will come with lots of tender loving care and kindness.
