Animal Survival International working to free Ljubo the Bear

(February 01, 2023)

Animal Survival International has been in touch about Ljubo the bear.

This poor animal is so stressed that he self-harms.  He is in Montenegro in a cage.  The public are encouraged to throw food at him.  ASI has video evidence of the bear resorting to self-harm.  He bites is arm and the bars of his cage.  It is a terrible life for any animal.

Ljubo the bear urgently needs help to leave this cage

Animal Survival International is doing everything it can to get Ljubo the bear released so that he can go to a sanctuary.

Local officials know of this bear’s terrible suffering but turn a blind eye – that’s easier than going through the legal processes which will be needed to free him.

ASI are constantly in touch with the three Montenegrin government agencies that hold the bear’s fate in their hands.  They remind them of the legal steps they must take to get better treatment for Ljubo and offer help and support.  They are even looking at taking private action against the bear’s owner.

They are hoping to meet the Minister of Tourism and ask for his support to remind him that many animal lovers won’t want to visit a country which lets such terrible treatment of animals go unchecked.  Tourism is important to Montenegro.
