  1. It's World Oceans Day!   You'll find plenty of promotional materials on the World Oceans Day website so take a look and see how you can use it to  promote the day!

Most of us think of water when it comes to World Oceans Day - the blue stuff which turns grey when it gets angry.

But for Polar Bears International, their focus is on the FROZEN ocean that polar bears and people depend on for survival.

    Go to Polar Bears International

Polar bears live on the surface of the frozen ocean - with a complex ecosystem under their huge paws.

Polar Bears International have highlighted some ways you can help polar bears and the Arctic:

    • Discover  Why Oceans Matter – to Polar Bears  and share the information there

    • Tune in for Live Chats from Svalbard, Norway!
    • Make a donation and receive a gift from Polar Bears International to help you lessen your impact on thep lanet.  Give a minimum of $65, and they will send you a Polar Bears International Save Our Sea Ice reusable shopping bag (made entirely from recycled bottles) and a special edition polar bear bracelet from 4Ocean! Give a gift of $80 or more and we'll send you a shopping bag, a water bottle, and a 4Ocean bracelet. Learn more here

They say...each 4Ocean bracelet represents one pound of trash removed from the ocean—helping to prevent potential toxins from entering the marine food web and the polar bears that depend on it. Take a deeper dive

  2. Take a look at these bears in this cage.

Help save these bears from this cage in Armenia - please sign this petition

Will you give your love and support to three bears?

They are stuck in a filthy, barren cage in Armenia.  The bears are used by the owner of Ashtaraki Dzor restaurant to attract visitors and tourists to the venue.

There have been complaints from local animal lovers – but the owner won’t let International Animal Rescue rescue the bears.

The bears have no dignity, freedom or ability to express natural wild bear behaviour.  They are suffering mentally and physically.

They should be roaming about the mountains, not stuck in a cage.

So the idea is that the petition raises awareness of the dreadful plight of these three bears, and puts pressure on the owner to let them go.

Once International Animal Rescue has the green light to rescue these bears, it will move them to their purpose-build rescue centre.

There they will be treated with compassion and respect.  The team there has a lot of experience in the rehabilitation of bears who’ve been rescued, and they will give them all the care and treatment they need to recover from their years in a cage.

Please stand up and give these bears your support.

  3. Pangolins need your help.   They are heavily trafficked and killed in Asia for their skins, scales and meat.

Sign Care2.com's petition to help pangolins here

There is a HUGE demand for pangolin scales.   14 tons of them were confiscated in April – in Singapore.  9 tons were confiscated in China back in February.

    • People wrongly believe that their scales have healing properties.
    • Their skins are seen as status symbols in fashion.
    • And their meat is seen as exotic to eat by Asia’s wealthy elite.  They are served at restaurants in Asia – they’re kept alive until they ordered.

Not much is known about them, though.  They are shy, nocturnal animals.  And they are susceptible to stress and often die unexpectedly in captivity.

So there’s a petition on Care2 to step up the fight for pangolins.  It is urging the Chinese and Vietnamese lawmakers to enact harsher penalties on illegal pangolin traders and pursue more robust species protection efforts.
