  1. If you love donkeys, please take a moment to read about two ways to help them.

Call on world leaders to ban the donkey skin trade

The Brooke says that at the moment, millions of donkeys are being killed across the world so that their skin can be sold to create traditional Chinese medicine and cosmetics.

This is a very cruel trade:  sometimes the donkeys are stolen, driven hundreds of miles without food or water and brutally killed at the end of the journey.

As well as being very cruel to the donkeys, it means that families are left without their precious donkeys who help families earn a living.  Without the donkeys, the families fall deeper into poverty.

At the moment, ten countries have announced trade bans, including Senegal and Pakistan.

We need more world leaders to join them and end this cruelty. Our aim needs to be a global ban?

Will you demand action for donkeys and donkey owners today?

Help donkeys and owners in Kenya

A ban on the donkey skin trade was announced in Kenya in February 2020, and donkey owners were full of joy.   They could sleep at night knowing their donkey – and their livelihood – were safe.  The threat of their donkeys being stolen had been removed.

Unfortunately, slaughterhouses and traders are going to court to try to overturn the ban.

We need to put pressure on politicians and demand they keep their promise.  We need to ensure the public and politicians understand how vital this ban is.

Two actions we can all take to help donkeys:

    1.   Please share this video to keep the campaign in the spotlight.   It tells the stories from donkey owners in Kenya.

  2. The World Land Trust is a remarkable conservation charity.

They are based in the UK but they work with conservation partners around the world to save acres of land which are crucial to wildlife.

There's a chance for every single one of us to be a part of history for a very special rainforest most of us haven't heard of.

It's in Ecuador, and the World Land Trust are working with their local partner Fundación Jocotoco (FJ) to safeguard the largest remaining tract of Ecuador’s once-vast Chocó forest – the home of Jaguar, Harpy Eagle, Horned Marsupial Frog and one of the most biodiverse places on the planet.

Logging for oil palm plantations could have seen this natural wonder vanish for good.

Please make a stand for wildlife in Ecuador,
wherever you are in the world.

    Help save Ecuador's Chaco Forest

    1-14 October 2020:
Donate to help wildlife and your donation will be doubled

The World Land Trust have a £500,000 ‘Saving Ecuador’s Chocó Forest’ appeal.   And from 1 to 14 October, they have a Big Match Fortnight

From 1 to 14 October 2020, all donations will be matched.

As I type, the appeal is 82% of the way there.

This is such an exciting appeal that could make a huge difference to the jaguar, the Harpy eagle, and the horned masupial frog.

Will you hop over to the World Land Trust and make a donation?  You can find out more about the forest and its importance here

  3. The 13 October 2020 is a HUGE day for Apes.

It’s a chance to dig into all our pockets and to help make a difference to them.

The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries have a global day of giving, which is supporting 37 qualified sanctuaries and rescue centres.

The 37 centres all provide rehabilitation or long-term care for apes in Africa, Asia and North America.

Giving Day for Apes first took place in 2014 and ever since it’s been helping to raise awareness for ape conservation.  It’s helped sanctuaries and rescues, raising money for ape care and advocacy.

And in the six years since that first event, over $2 million have been raised.

    So what’s happening in 2020?

    The goal:  to raise $500,000.

On the 13th October, qualified sanctuaries and rescue centres compete on leaderboards to raise the most money for their cause and win prizes generously given by sponsors.

     - please donate to one, or if you can't donate, share and spread the word.

Who are the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries?

It’s an international accrediting body for sanctuaries, rescues and rehabilitation centres.

It helps sanctuaries “to help animals through accreditation, collaboration, mentoring, and the development of greater recognition and resources for sanctuaries worldwide.”
