Posted on

World Giraffe Day is held every year on 21st June and it was initiated by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation.

Find out more about World Giraffe Day

World Giraffe Day is dedicated to a specific programme each year, and in 2018, fundraising efforts will go towards the conservation of the threatened Nubian giraffe in Uganda.

It is estimated that there are 2,645 of the Nubian giraffes (previously called Rothschilds) in the wild.

The GIraffe Conservation Foundation works closely with the Uganda Wildlife Authority to increase giraffe numbers, populations, and habitat in the country.

Operation Twiga III (Twiga is giraffe in Swahili) plans to translocate giraffe populations.  This has been successful before and boosted giraffe numbers, and you can find out more about efforts to help these giraffes here

You can donate to help this conservation effort or adopt a giraffe.
